Évry-Courcouronnes and Corbeil-Essonnes
Évry-Courcouronnes, the department's administrative centre, and neighbouring Corbeil-Essonnes form the main urban hub of central Essonne, crossed by the N7 and close to the A6. This area is generally well served, with consistent response times.
Paris-Saclay and the university area
The Saclay plateau, with its campuses, engineering schools and research centres, is developing fast and sees dense weekday traffic around the business parks. On weekends, traffic there is noticeably quieter.
Towards the Beauce plain in the south
Past Étampes, the department turns more rural, heading towards the Beauce plain. Distances increase and roads are more isolated, especially at night. A precise landmark (minor road, hamlet, distance marker) helps us give a realistic estimate in this area.
The A6, A10 and A104
The A6 crosses the department north to south towards Lyon, the A10 serves the south-west towards Orléans, and the A104 (the Francilienne) lets you bypass Paris via the eastern side of the department. On these roads, get onto the hard shoulder before anything else.
