Marne-la-Vallée and the theme park area
The Marne-la-Vallée area, around Chessy and Coupvray, sees dense tourist traffic year-round: sprawling car parks, shuttles, hire cars. If you break down in a car park there, tell us the car park name and the zone or aisle, these spaces are usually too large for a simple address.
A department twice the size of the others
Seine-et-Marne accounts for nearly half the total area of Île-de-France on its own. Between Meaux in the north, Melun in the centre and Fontainebleau in the south, distances are noticeably longer than in Paris or the inner suburbs: how quickly a driver reaches you depends more on your exact location than in the denser departments.
The Fontainebleau forest and its forest roads
Around Fontainebleau, many roads cross the forest, popular for climbing and hiking. Mobile signal there is sometimes weaker than elsewhere. If you break down on a forest road, a precise landmark (a junction, a trail car park, a distance marker) helps a great deal with locating you.
The A4, A5 and A6: the department's main routes
The A4 crosses the north of the department towards eastern France and Marne-la-Vallée, the A5 serves Melun and the south-east, and the A6 runs along the western boundary towards Lyon. These motorways have a hard shoulder along most of their length: if you break down, get onto it first, hazard lights and hi-vis vest.
