Versailles, between the château and a dense town centre
Versailles carries heavy tourist traffic around the château, plus dense local traffic of its own. Streets in the historic centre and some roads around the park can be temporarily closed during events: let us know the nearest street if you're stuck in this area.
Saint-Germain-en-Laye and the western suburbs
The Saint-Germain-en-Laye area, with its state forest and roads on the edge of town, mixes residential traffic with quieter, more isolated stretches in the evening. The RN13 and RN184 serve this area towards western Paris.
Mantes-la-Jolie and the Seine valley
Further west, the Mantes-la-Jolie area follows the Seine valley, with the A13 as the main route towards Normandy. This is a larger, less dense zone, where the driver's travel time depends more on your exact position on the motorway or in the surrounding towns.
The A13, A12 and the national road network
The A13 crosses the department east to west towards Normandy, the A12 links Rambouillet and Trappes to the motorway network, and the RN10 serves the south-west towards Rambouillet and Chartres. On a motorway, if you break down, get onto the hard shoulder and put your hazard lights on before calling.
